“Size is a big difference too” -Doug Demuro Well you heard it here first folks, Doug thinks size matters.
Me, seeing the handle that drops the rear seats is the same part from my 4Motion Golf Sportwagen: So yeah it's uh, 1/5 the price and just about 1/3 the horsepower but it's also AWD and...what? No, I'm pretty sure you only ever want to be able to send 30% of the torque to the rear, so this is definitely the better AWD system. Yeah and check this out, see this handle that drops the rear seats? Same part they used on the RS6, so...yeah it's pretty much the same car. Hey wait, where ya goin'? Come back!
.
I remember the stick on window shades people had for their babies. When they started building them into the door, I was blown away. As a kid, THAT was luxury. I love the comparison of these two cars, though. Both awesome in their own ways.
Rs2 in its simplicity looks way better than rs6. Rs6 is trying way too much to show that it's a !FAST!! wagon, it's almost as bad as civic type r.
My first car in the US was a 91 Audi 90 coupe. I suspect that and the four door saloon would be fantastic donor cars for Doug's RS2 not only for stuff like seatbelts and switchgear - but also more than a few engine components. I was always a fan of the look, but the five cylinder engine honestly made me superstitiously OCD because it's an odd number - until I put some miles on it and my brain started to rotate the cylinders in my imagination, so that one was top center, making it feel symmetrical and purposeful again. People in the States at the time (I am personally Eurotrash) had so fully bought into the 60 Minutes episode BS that the Audi brand was damn near toxic - and everyone had an opinion about it based on a largely false narrative (just like the McDonalds coffee burn lady) and would lecture me on both unintended acceleration (aka, old people panicking because of a slight difference in layout) and European reliability (ie, technology and complexity) so the irony was that a few days before a PG&E truck nearly vaporized my 90 at a stop light (and me along with it) in San Francisco, that the throttle cable snapped on a freeway exit by Glen Park BART, and somehow stuck my car in first gear, at about 2000 rpm. Actual real life, bona fide unintended acceleration. I was somehow able to (with brakes alone) drive it (loudly) to the auto mechanic on Army/Cesar Chavez (famous at the time for being the only honest repair shop in San Fran - who fixed it for $20 for the replacement cable. I loved that car, and PGE blew it up. Which as it turns out is a thing they do on the regular.
Toyota cresta gx51
rs2 better by far
Comparing size of RS6 to RS2 is not the best idea. RS2 is Audi 80 -> A4. RS6 is A6.
I'd rather have the RS2
I actually enjoy the interior of the older Audi. I don’t care about the modern look. I appreciate some 90’s car interiors.
Doug is the kind of guy to use text to point out which car is which in split screen view of the interiors.
Technology aside, I’ll take the rs2 interior all day. The rs6 interior is to busy and not to pleasing to the eye.
Honestly, that comparison isnt the best. A better one would be RS6 vs S6 Plus (from 96-97) :)
But: Changing Turnsignallight in RS6: 1500Dollar and u need to go to a repair shop on RS2: 2Dollar and made it by yourself :P
I hate the look of modern lights. Ugly, needlessly agressive. Modern cars are ugly, and uglier evry day.
👍
Myself being an old soul (I like classic/older everything) I do like the simplicity of the RS2 along with the whole of the car in general. I still do like the new one and probably going to buy one at some point in my life but I do wish I could get my hands on an RS2 a little more then I want the new one.
RS2 looks like tupical AUDI from that era, RS6 looks like tupical modern Hyundai
I want to see the VW Passat version. Oh wait. Its probably the same.
Isn't the rs6 suppose to have a flat bottom steering wheel
Maybe Doug should just work with one car at a time. Working with two cars gives him less time to be Dougish!
Also reliability of these cars should be considered. I really doubt rs6 will survive 3 decades.
11:57 mind blown! Are you partnering with DreamWorks animation studios?
To be honest I hate how most modern cars look identical, just look at the new Camry, look at the wheels, the sharp lines, the front grille. Also the bigger size is also not helping - most of them feel hollow and cheap. If a car is fast and mid-size it feels dense, very heavy and powerful.
12:46 One has fun lever and one does not. Only thing I noticed on that pan.
Hard to beat the old Straight 5 engines, still going strong to this day. Sadly it's super hard to come over a car with those engines today, where the engine or the car hasn't been modified. Since so many bought them to build track cars or tuners. Your RS2 is in BEAUTIFUL condition it seems like. And the RS2 Avant is my all time favorite stationwagon, since it's the pedigree of sports wagons. It would be amazing to see Audi make a new RS2 (maybe as a anniversary thing),maybe based on a A4 (RS4) or even make something between the RS3 & the RS4 to bridge the gap. It's Audi so I wouldn't expect it to be cheap, but if they could put it in between the RS3 & RS4 price wise. And make it as a pure sporty drivers car,and not the fastest or wildest wagon they would have something special. I honestly think there would be a market for it. If someone could do it,it would be the Audi engineers..
At least the RS2 is manual
Now do the 912 and the 992
Is this Adam Lz’s audi now?
Audi RS6 Avant Tribute Edition Audi RS2
Rs6 is not in the same category, rs4 would be....so this is not a real comparison. B4 chassis is equalt to A4, A6 was the C4 at the time.
8:28 AAAAHAHAAAH
When did car design choose to go the wrong path? Instead of less weight so we need less power, we go the opposite way, heavier and more powerful, but hey, you still get the ECO label
2021 is awesome/beautiful, 1994 is boring/dull. How modern it is to look at the past wearing todays glasses. How would you compare the RS2 to a 1960s wagon in the 90s?
DOUG AFTER 10 YEARS: Before I get started, be sure to check out CARS AND BIDS, which is my NEW online enthusiast car auction website for modern enthusiast cars
I adore the old one. It looks timeless, it still will run in ten years in the age of e-cars. The new one looks overdesigned for wannabe Hamiltons
In 1992 BMW introduced the first wagon of this type, the E34/5S M5 touring, which is even rarer.
Does he not know that the rs6 has the same exact front end as the rs7 or what?
This review reminds me of the differences I see between my (b4)95 passat vr6 manual wagon and my (b6) 07 passat vr6 tiptronic wagon. Engagement vs technology. Functional need vs luxury. Old fast vs newer almost double the horse power fast. And engines used in audi and porsche vehicles. I enjoy driving the 95 so much more, but I'd be lying if the guy in the dodge ram hemi pulling up to me in the 07 saying "does that thing have the 3.6?! Sh#t! That thing hauls ass!", didn't make me feel cool.
It remains to be seen whether all the gauge cluster screens, LED turn signals, electronically shifted transmission and self-raising tailgate on the RS6 will still work after the 27 years that the basic RS2 has survived.
how did doug get that license plate numbber
mostly aesthetic changes not required to actually drive a vehicle. 25 years later the same 4 wheels, one steering wheel, dual side mirrors, same tail lights as far as required function. The same old internal combustion engine. When they fly call me.
don't all Audi's look the same??? OOOO
some early 1970's wagons were fast with large V8 engines:)
Both those cars look like something Hunter Biden would raw drive...
22:00 omg how cool are the air vents in the seats! Must be amazing for interior downforce
Moral of the story, as is always - automatic transmissions, no matter how fancy, decrease the fun of driving; as does weight.
08:29 the random guy screaming lmaoo
Porsha lol I just like to say Porcshe not the a sound at the end
Between 23:30 and 24:00 what is that orange car in the rear mirror getting owned by the RS6? It looks like he attempts to keep up when he gets on the on ramp and then just fades away :D
Damn that boi thicc
those fake plates are a funny touch
I love how cars from the 90s have a much simpler cosmetic design than today. really emphasis the lines of the car. less visual clutter. I think doug made the right choice between the 2.
Powered by Porsha
I don’t know if i am the only one here who thinks that RS 2 looks so much more “cozy” and True and Distinct .. unlike the RS6 that can be mixed up with pretty much every 3d car on the street.. No excitement at all about those “lines” and “big grills”, Doug.
I love Audi wagons, imo those are some of the most beautiful cars ever. And i'm very into new RS6 look but my god if I had the money I would go with that 94' RS2, it is just so much cooler and I love the front, it's just so rally looking, damn.
They are at least 4+ inches different in height. That is a lot. A. Lot.
Man I love the old Audi 80 design, so classic...
Love the RS2. Show us more of your Audi Doug. How about a review on a Passat W8 wagon?! Maybe do a Passat W8 vs RS2 video. Please.
rs2 is closer to modern rs4 (longitudinal engine layout) or even rs3 (engine itself). And here the hippo rs6
The only thing I don't like better from the 94 are the wheels
Next time you should test a Aston Martin Cygnet vs a DB10 I like that there aren't any map pockets in the back. At 160mph you wouldn't want to be reading a map in the rear. This isn't as much of a comparison as Doug trying to justify buying the RS2 vs the RS6 Porsche Engineering: "How can we make it go faster." Volkswagen Engineering: "How can we make it break down faster?" Doug caught by the Father of a 16yo girl. "Don't worry, she's relatively legal."
The RS6 only has such large brakes becuase it is HEAVY AF, nearly 5000 pounds.
Are these animated tail lights going to be equivalent to tail fins, vinyl wood paneling, and teal paint jobs? Meaning will it become extremely dated or at least to be able to date the car?
RS6 for daily RS2 for weekend!
Doug. Transporting an infant. lol.
So is there any rhyme or reason to Daddy Doug converting to real units or is just like “Murrrica!!”
Adam LZ’s RS6 in the review
Doug the rs2 rear end look a little bit like the rear end of a 1994 toyota tecrcel😂
I see what you did with the license plates!
I like the RS2, BUT... the RS6 is incredibly amazing XD
I love the license plate Easter egg
Cars are more capable now - but older cars had more character... that includes the interior. the RS2 interior is still beautiful
Why on earth would anyone want an SUV over either of these wagons??? unless you need to go off road in a Range Rover - these wagons are better in every way
13:59 why wouldn't you just cut to it?!? THIS IS A VIDEO YOU ARE A ALtheR DO YOUR JOB LMAO
"combination of them both" - RS3? Has the smaller size and less power but also the tech and daily drivability.
Thisssss comparison is flawed, because the RS4 Avant would be the suitable car.
Ah yes, fast wagons. Doug, you helped convince me how awesome the E63 AMG wagon is, and I finally got one last week :) Carbon brakes and everything
Doug u must turn around the camera to the road and the gauge cluster
14:14 built-in "screen"?
Hey Doug. Is the steering wheel in your RS2 aftermarket. Can't find any in Europe with that wheel. All I can see is 4 spoke steering wheel like you get in a modern SE Audi?
Conclusion: Audi's are getting more pointless. Power which you can't use. Interior which doesn't work in sun.. or at night.. or is robust. Price is getting near to supercars, so what is the point? And the 5 cyl sounds better than the new V8. Crazy? Well.. how many cars have V8 now and how many are 5 cyl? Also I want to see this RS6 in 27 years from now. RS6 with V10 were struggling to make it thru the warranty period.
Doug be like: “Can I have that 6 license plate for my collection ?”
tuddor69
19 ditë më parë
It's funny because those are his license plates from his collection. I believe he used them because he took down the 69 Alabama plate from the wall and had to move every plate one spot. Also, I think he doesn't want people to know what his plate on the RS2 is.
Why, oh why you pronounce the Porsche Porschaaaa...?? Nobody pronounces it that way in the whole wide world except Americans.. You simply stop before this annoying -aaaa comes to your tongue.
You should have compared the new RS4 Avant with RS2. It would have been much more interesting to see the progress of technology and design for basically the same car...
Audi RS6 is without a doubt the car I would choose to drive if somebody told me I can have any car I want, but just one.
RS 6 exhausts are fake. Same with sound
"stuff creecks..." * drives with half-folded back seat
I need that CRX Si on cars an bids.
8:29 crazy scream in the distance
Yellow
Still love that manual RS-2. That being said, I LOVE the RS-6, and would love to have it...and the money to repair it. Cause that’s going to cost you! 💰 😱
Now I'm just convinced Doug Demuro and Jay Leno are completely related
Make a video of w210
Lovely eldritch noise at 8:28. Really sets the mood. 🤣
Don't agree with his view, RS2 is a pretty car, solid lines, interior is minimalistic, functional. Later Audi cars just scream for attention with round shapes, "race" like-looks and all screens. It states mostly that car design just got worse, trying to make everything look "agressive". Maybe because cars got so much hate lately that they are overcompensating? Audi is btw one of the companies that still holds back on this new design styles and still makes relatively pretty cars. Also funny to see that the square tail light" blocks" are coming back like on the polestar.
well actually comparing rs2 to rs4 would be cool, still interesting though
Hey Doug. Congrats on your channel, I love it! Don't you think the best of both worlds would be the 2021 RS4? It has the footprint of the RS2 and the tech of the RS6. What do you think?
The RS2 has 2 trunk lid latches! Quite a rare situation. Take that RS6!
